The Best Sugar Cookie Recipe (2 of 2)

Grandma Falba’s favorites envelope contained two sugar cookie recipes, the first being a ‘drop’ cookie recipe, this one is the ‘roll the dough out and cut’ version. This version is a little more work, but if the kids want to help in the kitchen, making the cookies into shapes is always fun.

Sugar Cookies

2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
1 egg, beaten
2 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon lemon extract

Sift first four ingredients together. Cream butter or margarine and sugar. Blend in egg, milk, and flavorings. Blend in dry ingredients. Chill in refrigerator 2 hours. Roll 1/8 inch thick on lightly floured board. Cut into desired shapes with floured cooky cutters. Bake on ungreased cooky sheet in moderate oven (375°) 10 to 12 min. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.

I still have many of Grandma Falba’s ‘cooky’ cutters in my kitchen. The star was a favorite, and it was such fun to help her once the dough was rolled out and ready to cut.
